Week 23

Panphobia is a dynamic band who bring fun, passion, energy and a message of unity mixed with a social wake up call to the stage. Their angry music for honest people or honest music for angry people is a twist on punk and rock reminiscent of the great punk bands of past generations. Panphobia is Moe on vocals and guitar and Serio Steve on bass.

Formed in Albuquerque in April of 2012, Panphobia have been making a name for themselves on the scene not just for their music but also for the devotion and support of the Albuquerque music scene as a whole. Often the members of Panphobia can be seen out at shows supporting other local bands for the sake of supporting their brothers and sisters in this musical community. They have also been known to defend and protect fellow bands, venues and the scene as a whole by speaking up against those who trash talk and bring nothing to the scene but negativity.

Through Panphobia was founded in April of 2012 they have been playing shows for less than six months and their biggest successes as a band so far has been to solidify their lineup after several setbacks with former members and to also write and play a new song at their previous five shows. Their ultimate goal is to continue to write and play new songs while becoming the true famous rockstars that they know they are and to learn to accept the horrible things that each of them truly are.

Panphobia and their music are inspired by several distinctive elements including bands such as Propaghandi, Local H, Bury You Dead, Clutch and Black Sabbath but they also tap into the creative inspiration of comic books, marijuana and the overall decline of western civilization. Their music is really a cohesive collection of many different things but most people will pick up on the comparability of punk from the 1980s and rock from the 1990s.

What is next for Panphobia is the release of their CD, “Anatomy of a Monster”, which is expected to be released in the late summer or early fall of this year. In the meantime they will continue to play shows and will accept that if they cannot be super heroes they will ultimately settle for being super villains. No matter what kind of super Panphobia is they will always bring something new to each show rather it be a new song or a new fun and wacky stage presence to entertain the crowd.

In the end, Panphobia encourages people to come see their show not only because you want to but because their music is ultimately a wakeup call with message of hope and a call to action. Really listen to and feel their music and you will discover that it is not as negative as it may seem but is the explosion of emotions colliding with thoughts that erupt through instruments and words like Mt. Saint Helen.

Week 25

Comic book writer Pat Mills brought the character of Slaine mac Roth, a Celtic barbarian warrior king who along with his axe Brainbiter and his ability to warp spasm in order to defend his people against the dark druid Slough Feg, to life in 1983 in his graphic novel series titled Slaine. In 1989 Pat Mills collaborated with illustrator Simon Bisley and published the three book series Slaine: The Horned God. In this series Slaine goes on a quest to collect four artifacts that once united will enable him to become high king and lead his people into battle in the hopes of saving them from Slough Feg and his army.

In 2012 the next adaptation of the story began in Albuquerque New Mexico when three friends took their love of the story and combined it with their passion of music and created the three piece cosplay stoner rock or as they call it, "Ancient Celtic inspired stoner rock, legends and lore, of love and war!!!", musical interruption appropriately named, The Horned God.

The Horned God consist of three members, Dominic on vocals and guitar, Robson on bass and Tim on drums. This one of a kind dynamic three piece bring the story of Slaine to life with lyrical dialog and narratives ripped from the pages of the book accompanied by full costume and projected comic book cells throughout the entire performance.

The Horned God has harvested the souls of countless unknowing humans and sacrificed them to the dark gods of Cythrawl. They will continue to harvest souls on their quest to make music for the sake of making music and to have fun while expressing their selves musically. They would like to play some regional comic conventions and then ultimately play larger conventions, especially the San Diego comic convention.

The Horned God attribute their musical influences to bands such as Kyuss, Fu Manchu, Dozer, Mark Lanegan and a little touch of Nomeansno. You can hear these influences in their music as well as classic rock gods in their own right, Black Sabbath.

The Horned God is three seasoned, talented musicians who just want to make amazing music and have fun doing it. They bring to the local scene not just a show but an experience unlike all others with the musical talent to back it.

Join them and Slaine on their musical excursion this Thursday June 20, 2013 at the Launchpad! 21+, show start at 8 p.m. Other great local bands Skulldron, Seven Days Lost and Shiva will be sharing the stage that night.
